1. Who We Are

Our website address is: https://bbkshortfilmsoc.com. The Birkbeck Short Filmmaking Society is a student-led collective operating under the Birkbeck Students’ Union (BSU). We manage and process personal data in strict accordance with the BSU Student Group Handbook and UK GDPR.

2. Information We Collect & Our Purpose

Comments & Media

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to assist with spam detection.

  • Media: If you upload images to the website (e.g., for casting calls or crew applications), you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included.

Film Production & Casting

For our active production slate, including Tottenham Boys and Whispers in the Corridors, we collect professional data such as portfolios, headshots, and contact details.

  • Note on Credits: By participating in a production, you acknowledge that your name will appear in the film’s credits. These are a permanent part of the creative work and may be shared globally via platforms such as YouTubeor IMDb.

Crowdfunding & Donations

All financial contributions are processed securely via Stripe. The Society does not store or see your credit card details; we only receive confirmation of the donation to fund our film programme.

3. Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name and email address in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again. These cookies will last for one year.

  • Login Cookies: If you have an account, we set temporary cookies to manage your login session and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days; “Remember Me” persists for two weeks.

4. Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., YouTube videos of our series Every Migrant Has a Story). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, and monitor your interaction.

  • Your Rights: Under UK law, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you or request that we erase any personal data. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

6. Where Your Data is Sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. All society-specific data enquiries are managed by the Society Committee via su-shortfilmsoc@bbk.ac.uk.
