1. Introduction

By accessing this website and engaging with the Birkbeck Short Filmmaking Society (“the Society”), you agree to comply with and be bound by the following terms and conditions. These terms govern your use of the site, your participation in our film projects, and your contributions to our crowdfunding campaigns.
2. Intellectual Property (IP)
- Website Content: All cinematic stills, trailers, text, and logos on this site are the property of the Society or its respective creators. Unauthorised use or reproduction is strictly prohibited.
- Film Projects: For projects like Tottenham Boys and Whispers in the Corridors, all rights to the final cinematic works remain with the Society and the designated Rights Holders.
- Adaptation Rights: Tottenham Boys is an official book-to-screen adaptation. The underlying intellectual property belongs to the original author/publisher; the Society holds the exclusive rights for this specific digital adaptation.
3. Crowdfunding & Donations
- Voluntary Contributions: All donations made via Stripe or Fast.link are voluntary contributions to the Society’s production fund.
- No Refunds: Once processed, donations are non-refundable as they are immediately allocated to production costs (e.g., location permits, equipment hire).
- Perks & Credits: While we aim to honour all “Producer Credits” and donor perks, these are subject to the successful completion and distribution of the film.
4. Collaboration & Membership
- Birkbeck Priority: While we welcome external collaborators, priority for all production roles is strictly reserved for current Birkbeck University students.
- Conduct: All members and crew must adhere to the Birkbeck Students’ Union Code of Conduct. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or discrimination on our sets.
- Volunteer Status: Participation in Society films is on a voluntary, non-paid basis unless explicitly stated otherwise in a formal production contract.
5. Event Attendance (17 April Masterclass)
- Registration: Access to our workshops and masterclasses is via registration. The Society reserves the right to refuse entry or remove individuals who disrupt the professional environment of the Immersive Learning Centre.
6. Limitation of Liability
The Society shall not be held liable for any personal injury, loss, or damage to personal equipment sustained during production, except where required by UK law. Participants are responsible for their own personal belongings on set.
7. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
